Summer Sun

Neutral Tones And Hexagons

Hello scrappers and welcome to November! Can you believe 2021 is almost over? I certainly can’t. Where does the time go? This week I bring you a page featuring a photo that was taken earlier this year when I was at a wedding. (The iPhone camera has come a long way. This photo was taken with a phone which is pretty amazing!) The wedding was late July, early August, so while my page title references summer, I chose more neutral tones and themes that weren’t overtly “summer” but went well with my photo.

I started with some college ruled paper with a pretty bird detail from the Lost & Found Breeze stack by My Mind’s Eye. The teal striped paper I used is also from the same stack. The hexagon print paper is also by My Mind’s Eye from their Follow Your Heart 6 X 6 stack. This paper is double-sided and I cut and flipped a small piece to display the white grid design on the other side. I tried something new on a whim and cut out some of the hexagons from the pattern and made it look like they were breaking away from the paper. I really love how this design element turned out. It definitely adds interest to the page! The title is made up of two sets of chipboard stickers, both by American Crafts. I cracked open some washi tape from Taperlogy and cut out a few designs to use as stickers. I pulled the vellum flower stamp from a little bujo stack and wondered what Moldova meant. I assumed it was the name of the flower. A quick Google determined it is not a flower but a country in Europe. Who knew? Not me. This photo was not take in Europe, but in the less exotic, Southern California. Some absolutely ancient butterfly stickers by The Paper Studio finished off the page.

This page was created for the ARTastic challenge blog’s November challenge. I haven’t participated in one of their challenged in a while but their inso pic by artist Emma Use was so striking. The criteria was to use a portrait photo and I definitely had plenty of portrait photos to choose from to feature on my page.

This page was also created for the Scrap Our Stash scrap lift challenge. Usually when I start with a sketch or an existing layout, my page ends up pretty closely resembling the original, at least as far as the layout goes. That did not happen in this case but I swear I started with this sketch as inspiration. I used one vertical photo on the upper left side of my page. I layered paper under my photo and used a doily (or two!) and used a hexagon detail instead of the half circle detail in the lower right corner. Apart from that though, I sort of went off the rails. Even though this page came out so different, I do really love the final result.

That’s all for this time. I’ll see you next week and I hope you’re getting a head start on your Christmas shopping and getting all of your Thanksgiving goodies together. See you soon!
