Scrapbook Challenge

Dance Is A Song Of The Body

Grayscale With Pops Of Red

Hi scrappers! This week I have a layout that’s a little different from my usual creations. Most of my pages are brightened colorful, but this one is totally black and white, except for the vibrant red accents. This technique really brings out the red dress in my photo and provided a fun challenge as I raided my stash for anything and everything gray.

I started with some grayscale paper by Momenta. I’ve had this paper stack forever but don’t use it very often because, like I said, I usually like a lot of color. However in this case, this was the perfect collection of papers! I found some scraps of diamond and woodgrain print papers in my stash and matted them and my photo with gray and white cardstock. I used a sticker frame but didn’t punch out the center so I would have better contrast for the sticker I was using at my title.  I used a piece of black and white Golden Desert ephemera by Prima as well as a scrap of red paper and turned them into a tags with a couple of eyelets. I added some fiber and lots of stickers both from 49 and Market’s Vintage Everyday Essentials collection and Carpe Diem’s Beautiful Mini Sticker book. The red details are from rub-on transfers and laser cut leaves, both from 49 and Market’s Spectrum Gardenia collection.

This page was made for the July 2023 Mood Board Challenge over at A Cherry on Top Crafts. This month we had a choice of two separate mood boards, but could draw inspiration from both. You can probably guess which one I chose. As soon as I saw the photo of me in the red dress in my stash of photos, I knew I was going with the red theme. The three elements from the mood boards I chose to add were:

  • Dance

  • Butterflies

  • Flowers

This page was also created for a scrap lift challenge. I was inspired by the layout above originally created by SandyK1967. I mirrored the layout so I wouldn’t cover up all the elements of my background paper. I liked all the floral details along the edge of the paper but my simple diamond patterned paper didn’t have anything like that. I created my own details by arranging a row of various gray embellishments from my stash.

That’s all for this week. This layout was so much fun and maybe I’ll play with grayscale ore in the future. What color would you choose as your colorful accent on a grayscale page like this?
