Gray Tones And Shakers

Hi scrappers! This week, I wanted to feature some photos of my husband. He recently got scuba certified a few years ago and has already traveled the world taking photos of sharks, whales, coral reefs and all kinds of magical things underwater! I can barely swim confidently in a pool so I have no interest joining him on his scuba adventures but I love how much joy he gets in scuba dicing. Look how happy he looks here!

I started with some gray cardstock by Momenta. This paper is nice and thick which I knew I would need since my shakers would be heavier than most embellishments. I used two rolls of washi tape, one with small text and one with vintage technology from the Happy Journaling set by The Washi Tape Shop. This site has such beautiful washi tapes and many are exclusive to their store. I have to be careful about browsing their site because I always end up buying half the store! These particular was his were purchased years ago and never opened until now. I feel like that’s what usually happens with the majority of my craft supplies.

The rest of the strips behind my photo are all paper scraps that I had in my stash. The skinny strips with perforations are actually the strips that are in top of a page when they come in a big paper pad. I almost always keep these because I can utilize them in surprising ways. The black on on this page was actually attached to the top of my background paper and I was able to use it on the same page and display both patterns of this double-sided paper. Win, win! These strips often have holes in the middle so the paper pads can be hung on hooks in retail stores. This can be annoying because I have to come up with ways to cover them. It was easy in this case since my large photo covered any imperfections.

From there, I used a Sizzix shaker kit to make two little shakers. I also used the corresponding die cut to make a frame that fits perfectly over the top to hide the plastic edge and also a square that fits inside the shaker box perfectly. I added some little star glitter shapes by Recollections and some larger silver circles by Sizzix. My favorite addition was a metal token by Tim Holtz in each shaker box. I created the title with a 49 and Market rub-on and added some Tim Holtz Small Talk stickers to represent journaling. Lastly, I added some vintage camera stickers by Navy Peony to match the washi tape and scattered around some enamel dots by Simple Stories.

This page was made for the October Book Lover’s Challenge over at A Cherry Top Crafts. I took inspiration from the book cover for my color palette and used multiple shades of gray. The theme was to make a page with a theme of either being up in the sky or thrill seeking.

I used this sketch for this page that I found randomly on Pinterest. I really liked the paper strips beneath the photos and also the fact that the two photos were different sizes.

That’s all for this time. If you ever shop around on A Cherry on Top, you can check out my gallery page here while you’re there! See you soon.
